This YouTuber from Utah decided to buy theworld’s cheapest new car from China and was stunned by what arrived at his doorstep.
It all looked good on paper, but things were a bit different when he actually took delivery of this super tiny EV and took it for a spin.
On the bright side, the car worked just fine and it looked okay-ish.
But there were a few issues.
This is the world’s cheapest new car for a reason
China is a frontrunner in the EV world, and it’s not hard to see why.
From clever battery technology to record-breaking hypercars, they do it all.
More to the point, they cover all tax brackets.
Chinese brands can sell you incredibly expensive cars but, at the same time, they also have incredibly cheap EVs in their lineup if you want them.
This, for example, is the world’s cheapest new car, theChang Li, and it’s super tiny.
“I have to say it’s even smaller than it looks in the pictures,” Utah YouTuberHeavyDSparks pointed out as the tiny electric vehicle was loaded off the massive truck.
Having said that, the car was pretty solid despite being small and feeling a little brittle.
“This is a well-built vehicle, this is no joke,” he said in the video.
The Chang Li car is said to cost just $3,800, with the import company taking care of all of the importation costs.
“To get this to USA standards, you’re going to need a bigger motor,” one of the guys who delivered the Chang Li said.
But that’s an understatement.
In order to make this tiny little thing legal in the US, you need a lot more than just a bigger engine.
Still, the car drove, and so the YouTuber decided to put theChinese EVto the test.
But let’s just say things didn’t go as planned.

This tiny electric vehicle actually needed a little bit of help
To make the most out of this minute electric vehicle from China, the American YouTuber decided to make some modifications to see what theelectric car from Chinawas really capable of.
He added two generators to the Chang Li, partly because he wanted to increase range, but also because he wanted to test the 0-60 time and he felt that doing so would probably drain the battery quite rapidly and make the whole test a little bit pointless.
At the end of the day, the EV proved to be one step up from a golf cart, but that was about it.
It didn’t get a lot better than that.

All in all, this tiny vehicle felt pretty slow and hesitant.
But we still have to remember this cost less than $4,000, so there wasn’t a lot of room for complaints.
For less than $4,000, you get a vehicle that’s capable of transporting your, a passenger, and some stuff (not a lot of stuff, to be honest) from A to B quite cheaply.
You can’t really argue with that.
