Jamall Emmers reminded everyone why fights aren’t decided on paper.
Depending where one looked, Emmers was as high as a 3-to-1 underdog heading into his UFC Sacramento preliminary featherweight bout against Lerryan Douglas. The highly touted Douglas made a spectacular UFC debut this past March with a first-round finish of Julian Erosa, but on Saturday, Emmers turned the tables on him.
Emmers connected with a right hand straight down the pipe that badly hurt Douglas and brought an end to their duel in the opening round.

Emmers wasn’t afraid to strike with the dangerous Douglas, but he didn’t fight recklessly either, instead circling the cage strategically to avoid exchanges where Douglas could get a bead on him. Though Douglas had his moments, it was the patient Emmers who landed the deciding blow, throwing a 1-2 combination that scrambled Douglas’ defenses and left him vulnerable to a knockout blow.
The official time of the stoppage was 3:38 of Round 1.
Emmers (23-8) strings together three straight wins for the first time in his UFC career following victories against Hyder Amil and Gabriel Miranda.
This is the first UFC loss for Douglas (14-6) in his second UFC appearance and he sees a six-fight win streak come to an end.
