These guys flew to Seattle to buy a fake Lamborghini Diablo they found on Craigslist, but what really shocked them was the state of the car.
That’s because the car looked okay, but it was very clearly a replica.
And apparently, some people genuinely thought it was a real Lambo.
But the car’s design was the least of its problems.
A replica Lamborghini for Toyota Corolla money isn’t necessarily a good idea
CJ Lotzer, Ryan Iwerks, Grant Matthees, Ben Roth, Micah Sandman and Evan Sheff – the guys that run theCboysTV YouTube channel– traveled all the way to Seattle to buy a fake Lamborghini Diablo they found on Craigslist.
Like so many other kit cars, the fake Lamborghini Diablo was based on a Pontiac Fiero, which lends itself quite well for this sort of thing due to its dimensions and proportions.
And also because it’s super common in the US and quite cheap to buy.
We’ve seen a lot of Fiero-based kit cars, from theFranken-monster with a Cadillac V8built in Arizona to the wooden LamborghiniandLamborghini Countach we mentioned a while back.
It looked okay-ish, but there were a few details that screamed replica.
Which leads us to the main problem with kit cars.
The reason why fake cars can be a bad idea
One of the main problems with these kit cars is they never actually work well, and this fake Lambo was no exception.
Nothing was fitted properly: the body panels rattled and everything felt brittle, including the steering wheel which ended up breaking during the test drive.
“This doesn’t feel like… right,” one of the YouTubers said before smashing the steering wheel center cap simply by touching it.
Aside from the inevitable intellectual property issue, fake supercars have several other issues.
Summarized: they look good, but they aren’t good.
They break down quite easily, and they sometimes quite literally fall apart.
Some fake supercars look good, and it’s always tempting to go down the ‘buy a Lambo for the price of a Toyota Corolla’ route.
But, in the real world, an actual Toyota Corolla is almost certainly a better idea.
