Batman fans get great news on The Brave and the Bold
James Gunn has shut down rumors that The Brave and the Bold is on hold. The DC Studios co-CEO responded onThreadsafter areportclaimed the DCU Batman movie had been paused. Filmmaker Dan Marcus had posted on X that director Andy Muschietti told him work stopped due to the Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance merger.
Gunn directly addressed the claims on his Threads account. He stated, “It doesn’t sound like something Andy would have said but the project is in no way on hold.” His response came after fans brought Marcus’s post to his attention. Gunn also previously denied that any DC Studios projects were paused because of the merger.
Marcus had initially posted his claim alongside an unverified casting rumor. He later clarified he was referring to the casting rumor being false. However, he maintained that he did hear from Muschietti directly. Marcus also added that Muschietti might not know his own future with the project until the merger finalizes.
The Brave and the Bold was first announced in January 2023 as part of the Chapter One slate. Andy Muschietti signed on to direct the film after helming The Flash. Christina Hodson joined the project in January 2026 to write the screenplay. The film will introduce a new Batman/Bruce Wayne alongside his son Damian Wayne as Robin.
Gunn’s reassurance still leaves the project without a release date. The Batman Part II remains a key factor in its timeline. That film currently targets 2028, and Gunn has said he does not want two Batman films competing in the same year. Gunn previously stated on Threads that he would not “cloud the Batsphere” until after that film arrives. The Brave and the Bold will likely not hit theaters until 2029 at the earliest.
