When this man tried out Tesla’s Full Self Driving on the chaotic streets of India, he had people fearing it would ‘melt down’.

More and more people are now getting to grips with this technology.

At first, it can seem quite intimidating.

But this viral clip has people fearing more for the Full Self Driving technology than for the driver.

Tesla’s Full Self Driving technology on chaotic streets

Tesla’s Full Self Driving has been around for a while now, but for many people, this is a whole new frontier of driving.

This was very much the case for Kang Jin, a former bodyguard to Kim Jong Un, who was left terrified when he tried out FSD for the first time.

The NK Guys

It was a similarly hair-raising experience for the man who put FSD to the test in the busy streets of Miami.

Even someone who trusts the technology could appreciate why it might be intimidating.

You are essentially allowing a car to drive itself – it’s a sci-fi concept made into a reality.

But a viral video from India took that anxiety to a whole other level.

This video is bound to make you wince

In the clip, a driver is shown filming their Tesla’s central screen as it makes its way through a busy street in India.

Even watching the screen for a few seconds is enough to give you a headache.

Trucks, motorbikes, cars, pedestrians, you name it, all crossing into each other’s lanes with seemingly little order.

There was a ton of commotion on the roads, and it was overwhelming to bear witness to.

The Full Self Driving technology was doing its job though, that’s the good news.

Not that it stopped viewers from being apprehensive.

“That car is super stressed out,” one commenter wrote.

“The model will be fully trained in no time,” another said.

Whether or not we’ll see a day in which all cars on the road are self-driving, we can’t possibly predict.

But the technology has certainly moved in leaps and bounds in recent years.

We’re at the point now where Waymo is trialling self-driving cabs in major cities across the US and UK.

So we can expect to see more driverless cars in the future.

Timeline of Tesla Full Self-Driving

October 2014:Autopilot Hardware 1 is introduced, offering basic lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control.

October 2016: Hardware 2 announced, with a coast-to-coast autonomous drive promised by end of 2017 (although this didn’t come to fruition).

August 2017:Hardware 2.5 is introduced.

April 2019:Hardware 3 is announced, as part of a custom-built ‘FSD Computer’ – reportedly 21 times faster than the Nvidia chips used in HW2.5.

October 2020:FSD Beta rolled out to a small group of early testers – can now navigate local city streets, stop signs, and intersections with strict driver supervision.

November 2022:FSD Beta becomes available to anyone in North America who requests it via the in-car screen.

Mid-2023:Vehicles with Hardware 4 start getting shipped out, featuring higher-resolution cameras.

April 2024:FSD purchase price drops to $8,000 to encourage adoption.
