Сомали-Канадын найруулагч Ильхан Абдуллахийн анхны бүрэн хэмжээний бүтээл болох Lifeline киноны трэйлер цацагдлаа. ComingSoon is exclusively revealing the first trailer for Lifeline, the feature directorial debut of Somali-Canadian filmmaker Ilhan Abdullahi. The film will make its world premiere as the opening title at the Mosquers Film Festival in Edmonton, followed by screenings at the Vancouver International Film Festival, featuring a predominantly Somali cast.
Lifeline follows Hasan, a young Somali basketball player wrongfully accused of a crime in a suburban neighborhood. The case falls to reluctant youth worker Ibtisam Farah, who must confront her own past to fight for his future. The film was shot in both English and Somali.

What do we see in the Lifeline trailer?
The trailer starts by introducing a basketball player, Hasan, portrayed by Hanad Abdi, getting into trouble with law enforcement. The case is assigned to youth worker Farah, played by Muna Abdulahi, who despises rising to the challenge at first.
Farah’s limited knowledge of conversing in Somali appears to be paramount to the case, which is a tough one due to allegations of racial profiling. Tensions rise between Farah and the teenage suspect as they work together.
Lifeline has also been chosen as the opening night presentation at the Mosquers Film Festival on September 17, 2026. Mosquers is the world’s leading Muslim arts festival in Edmonton. The film has also been confirmed to play in London during the Somali Week Festival in October.
Besides Abdi and Abdulahi, Lifeline also stars Elmi Rashid Elmi and Saman Hasan. It is being produced by Mimi Dejene, with Agam Darshi serving as executive producer. Somali rapper Sharma Boy is writing original music and composing songs for the film. Additional executive producers include Abdulahi, Abdi, Sikandar Atiq, and Abdullahi Hassan. The film was shot by Alex Torres.
“Lifeline not only sheds light on the complexities of Black refugee youth in North America but also celebrates the vibrance of the Somali community and what it means to thrive beyond survival,” director Ilhan Abdullahi, who also executive produces the film, told Deadline last year. The filmmaker previously helmed short films such as Dreamers, Not For Us, and Unqualified.
Lifeline was developed through the Whistler Film Festival Screenwriters Lab.
