The Young and the Restless announced head writer Josh Griffith’s replacement in July 2026. Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor are set to take over his prominent role in production, with their work reportedly having started in August. Fans can expect the beginning of a new era of storylines on Y&R later in the year.
New head writers’ The Young and the Restless storylines to kick in from November
The Young and the Restless is set to make a transition to newer storylines penned by new writers, Giddens and O’Connor, starting Wednesday, November 11, 2026. It will also mark the conclusion of the Griffith era, who has been a part of its writing department since 2019.
He didn’t reveal the reason behind his exit. Alongside his duties as a writer, he also served as an executive producer, a role he earlier passed on to Sally McDonald. At the time, he stated that he wanted to focus on his writing duties.
Recently, Giddens took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to an enthusiastic fan, who looked forward to the new writers’ storylines on Y&R. The fan wrote, “I’ll start watching on Nov 11th – cannot wait to see what Jamey Giddens and Dan have written!”
Replying to his comment, Giddens asked him to watch the show now. He teased, “Fall in Genoa City sets up tons of juicy stories @oconnordanj and I are lucky to inherit as we begin telling new ones! Let’s watch as a Soap Fam!”
Giddens is a writer of Beyond the Gates. Before his new role, he had been associated with several known projects such as The Rich & The Ruthless, Sistas, Days of Our Lives, and Ambitions. O’Connor initially interned at ABC’s One Life to Live before switching into a full-time writing role there. He then did big soaps like Days of Our Lives and General Hospital.
