Daniel Dubois wants six big fights to take him toward undisputed, but his chances depend on how he’s matched and how much punishment he absorbs. Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s Fabio Wardley rematch, the WBO heavyweight champion described an ambition that will require greater consistency than he has shown.

“I’m on a journey towards undisputed, and I’ve got six fights,” Dubois said in comments reported by The Ring.

Wardley is the first obstacle at London’s O2 Arena, and their opening fight showed why looking beyond him is risky. Dubois recovered from two knockdowns to stop Wardley in the 11th round in May. He earned the victory, but another fight like that would be a punishing start to his proposed run.

Dubois has the power to beat dangerous opponents. The question is whether he can produce dependable performances across six major fights without another defeat or a damaging series of battles.

His two losses to Oleksandr Usyk already demonstrate that punching power alone won’t get him through every matchup. Recovering against Wardley does not mean he can afford the same mistakes against the other champions.

Dubois believes the nerves from their first meeting have gone. He also wants to finish Wardley sooner, suggesting he missed opportunities to force an earlier stoppage.

“No more slow starting,” he said.

That requires more than aggression. If Dubois comes out throwing without protecting himself, Wardley could find another opening. A sharper start means being ready to defend from the first bell, rather than needing a knockdown to bring him into the fight.

Matchmaking will influence how far Dubois gets. Opponents who allow him to establish his jab and power could help him build momentum. Pursuing every belt, however, eventually requires beating champions who may deny him those advantages.

Six big fights could stretch over years, with each hard contest affecting what he has left for the next. Dubois needs to beat Wardley with fewer mistakes before his undisputed ambition becomes easier to believe.

Dubois mapping out a six-fight sweep to undisputed sounds great in a press scrum, but the math simply doesn’t work in the real world.

In the heavyweight division, running through six consecutive top-tier bouts without slipping up is nearly impossible for anyone, let alone a fighter who gets hit as cleanly as Dubois does. He isn’t an elusive mover who cruises through twelve rounds untouched.

Every time he steps inside the ropes against someone with a pulse, it turns into a grueling war of attrition where both men trade concussive leather.

His fighting style carries an expiration date. When a fighter routinely relies on taking shots on the chin to get into range, every single training camp and brutal battle takes a permanent toll. Even in his win over Wardley, he had to drag himself off the canvas twice. Surviving that kind of chaos once or twice can build a reputation for toughness, but trying to repeat that cycle five or six times against legitimate killers is a recipe for getting stopped.

That creates an obvious trap for Dubois’ training team. If they try to protect his path by feeding him soft, hand-picked contenders, the entire exercise becomes empty. Hardcore fight fans and casuals alike will immediately see through manufactured records.

Empty title defenses against overmatched fringe contenders won’t earn him the respect or the legacy that true undisputed status demands.

On the other hand, if they actually throw Dubois into the deep end against the upper echelon, his defensive vulnerabilities will catch up with him long before he reaches fight number six. He cannot give away early rounds, leave his head on the center line, and expect elite operators to let him off the hook the way lesser punchers do.

The idea that Dubois can survive a half-dozen consecutive high-level heavyweight slugfests without getting derailed ignores both his technical flaws and the basic reality of the division.
