Xabi Alonso has been putting his Chelsea players hard at work in training ahead of the weekend’s Premier League clash against Everton

Fresh off the back of their 5-1 win against Bournemouth, the Chelsea players were in high spirits at Cobham as Xabi Alonso put his players to work this week.

Braces from Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro, plus a Morgan Rogers strike, ensured the Blues came away from Stamford Bridge with all three points on Saturday. The result means Chelsea are now sixth in the Premier League, level on points with Everton (fifth) and Brentford (fourth).

Interestingly, the west Londoners face the Toffees at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday in the lunch-time kick-off with David Moyes’ side yet to taste defeat in the league this season. Ahead of the clash, Alonso has been hard at work on the training pitch and below are five things football.london spotted in the latest batch of training images.

Caicedo in the gym

Moises Caicedo started the win against the Cherries and his return was a welcome boost. The midfielder has been out for the majority of the season but played 72 minutes on Saturday before he was replaced and given a standing ovation.

“It feels so good to be back with the team and there is no better way to come back than with a win,” Caicedo said after the match. “It was a tough moment to be honest, I couldn’t be with the team, but now finally I am back. I just want to be with the team in every moment, so I’m so happy to come back.”

Everyone will now be hoping Caicedo stays fit and the Ecuador international was seen in the gym at Cobham on Tuesday. Also in the gym was Pep Chavarria, who was even doing some volleys with a football while doing strength work.

Palmer and Lacroix moment

Cole Palmer is in the type of form that frightens defenders. The Englishman has four goals and three assists in eight appearances this season and is part of a devastating front three including himself, Joao Pedro and Morgan Rogers.

Maxence Lacroix, signed for £52million from Crystal Palace in the summer, has already proven himself to be a valuable asset to Alonso this season, starting seven of Chelsea’s eight matches. The Frenchman, though, may have felt a tad isolated in training. In one picture, Palmer could be seen dribbling with the ball as he took on Lacroix in a one-v-one situation. At least the centre-back doesn’t have to worry about Palmer in a real match anymore!

No James

Reece James was not spotted in any of the training pictures released by Chelsea. The Blues captain suffered a knee injury in the build-up to Saturday afternoon’s clash against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, subsequently ruling him out of the matchday squad.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Alonso revealed that James had ‘felt something’. The Blues manager said: “Yeah, he felt something, but after we did the tests later in the afternoon. He had some little issues on the knee, so we need to check how long it will be. We will assess it week by week.”

James is now a serious doubt for the clash against Everton and it remains to be seen if the defender will feature in any of the Blues’ four remaining fixtures in October. Jamie Gittens (foot injury) was also not pictured during the session.

Joao Pedro and Rogers

It’s fair to say Joao Pedro (five goals and three assists in six games) and Rogers (four goals and four assists in eight games) have started the season brilliantly. You seriously cannot tell that Rogers has only been at the club a few months following his £117million move from Aston Villa.

The duo, along with Palmer, have already formed a devastating relationship and they were pictured taking part in similar drills on Tuesday. Wearing yellow bibs, Rogers and Joao Pedro were spotted pinging balls about during shooting practice, not that they need any!

Estevao dribbles

Estevao Willian has featured in five Premier League matches this season but all of those have come off the bench and, in truth, the Brazilian has been a bit-part player under Alonso so far. The 19-year-old’s talent is undeniable, though, and he will get his chance at some point during the season.

Like Palmer, Rogers and Joao Pedro, Estevao was also wearing a yellow bib in training and was spotted on the ball, showcasing his dribbling ability. With four games in 14 days coming up, the winger will surely get more opportunities this month.
