Skyrim players can download and play a free, DLC-sized mod right now on PC and Xbox, taking them back to Hammerfell for a new adventure in The Elder Scrolls’ most popular entry.
Since its original release in 2011, Skyrim has remained one of the most beloved entries in The Elder Scrolls series, leading to ports across multiple console generations, most recently the Nintendo Switch 2.
In 2016, Skyrim Special Edition brought mods to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, although PlayStation has stricter restrictions on modding. Now, a new DLC-sized expansion is available on PC and Xbox, called ‘The Remnants of Hammerfell – The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal’.
What is ‘The Remnants of Hammerfell’, Skyrim’s new DLC-sized mod?
‘The Remnants of Hammerfell – The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal’ was created by modder Starfield201, and it’s available to download now via Bethesda’s Creations website.
“After helping the Remnants during the Creation Club quest Redguard Elite Armaments, your adventure continues in the Alik’r Desert. Reunite with familiar allies, uncover new stories, and once again aid the Remnants in their ongoing efforts against the Thalmor,” reads the mod’s description.
“This quest expansion adds a collection of new adventures set within the worldspace of The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal. Join forces with Boscean, reconnect with Fijeh and Rakeed, undertake new missions, and earn the opportunity to recruit Rakeed as a follower.”
‘The Remnants of Hammerfell’ key features:
- Adds seven new quests in the Alik’r Desert, including four notice board quests and three story-driven missions.
- Continues the story of the Remnants with new locations and objectives.
- Features fully voiced characters and the ability to recruit Rakeed as a follower.
- Is designed to fit seamlessly into The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, offering a lore-friendly continuation of the existing content.

‘The Remnants of Hammerfell’ requires both ‘Redguard Elite Armaments Creation Club’ content and ‘The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal – 10th Anniversary’ mod to run.
It’s is compatible with the following mods: ‘Gray Cowl of Nocturnal Alikr Flora Overhaul’ and ‘Camels and New Animals in Alik’r Desert’. It is also said to be compatible with “most quest and content mods”. All other essential details can be found on the mod’s webpage.
