House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock revealed the “cheap” way that she celebrated getting cast as Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl in the titular film. The Australian actress revealed that she bought the “cheapest champagne at The Bottle-O” and invited all her friends over for drinks. She was cast in the role ahead of DCU’s acclaimed Superman, which kickstarted the rebooted universe.
How Milly Alcock celebrated after being cast as Supergirl
Milly Alcock, who played the younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon season 1, shed light on her relatable celebration after she bagged the role of Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl in the newly-established DCU. She played the role in last year’s Superman and now has her own film, Supergirl.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Alcock revealed the simple and relatable way she celebrated the win. “I bought a bunch of the cheapest champagne at The Bottle-O because I was in Australia,” Alcock said at the world premiere of Supergirl at New York City’s Brooklyn Academy of Music on June 22, 2026.
She added that she “invited all my friends over. We just drank and danced.”
Alcock made her first appearance as Supergirl at the end credits scene of Superman, teasing an arc going forward. Now, the new film has hit the theatres. It has, however, not received the critical acclaim of its predecessor.
Alcock also revealed that James Gunn himself confirmed her casting with an email. “I was like, okay, thank you,” she recalled, “I mean, I got the part, but I was like, ‘Do call me, man! This is a calling conversation.’ But he’s a busy guy…Perhaps the busiest guy at DC.”
“I related to her struggle to be alive and the way that emotions are really difficult to have, really difficult to process,” Alcock further added about the role of Supergirl. “Sometimes you can get in your own way.”
Supergirl is currently playing in theatres across the United States.
