Petar Sucic became the first player at the World Cup 2026 to score against Ghana with a long-range opener to send Croatia top of Group L at England’s expense on Saturday.

Inter midfielder Sucic arrowed a 31st-minute finish beyond Benjamin Asare’s dive to move his side to six points in the live table following their 1-0 win over Panama on Tuesday.

“That’s a beautiful strike, isn’t it?” former Scotland striker Ally McCoist asked on ITV. “It just opens up for him, inviting the shot. He keeps it low and hard.”

Nikola Vlasic, who joined Sucic and Ante Budimir as the newcomers in Croatia’s side, had earlier struck a post from distance.

England were drawing 0-0 with eliminated Panama at the time, putting them on course to finish on five points – one ahead of Ghana.
