Italian manufacturer SGT Automobili is bringing back one of the most iconic Alfa Romeo sedans, the Alfa Romeo 155, in the shape of a hypercar called the 55-SGT.
Even though the inspiration comes from a sedan, this is essentially a hardcore supercar for the track.
Production is limited, as you can imagine.
And the price is not really Alfa Romeo-esque.
Alfa Romeo-based restomods are on the rise
The SGT Automobili 55-SGT is yet another Alfa-based and Alfa-inspired restomod.
Alfa Romeo is probably one of the most beloved car brands in the world, but its future is uncertain and its present is confusing, with only four production vehicles in the line-up, all of which are underperforming commercially.
There’s also the 33 Stradale, which is spectacular, but it’s expensive and limited to 33 units only.
So, these restomods are trying to fill that gap.
Over the last few years, we’ve seen the Totem, an Alfa Romeo GT-inspired vehicle that’s available both as a gas car and and as an EV, and now the 55-SGT.
As the name suggests, this is a tribute to Alfa’s most iconic sedan.
The SGT Automobili 55-GT is a tribute to a DTM icon
Unveiled at this year’s Milano-Monza Motor Show, this coachbuilt grand tourer draws inspiration from the 1990s Alfa Romeo 155 DTM, but it actually hides an Alfa Giulia underneath.
SGT replaced the original body with a custom, full carbon-fiber body, which features a squared-off retro-futuristic front end, boxy flared fenders, deep splitters, a massive fixed rear wing, and white center-lock-style racing wheels.
The rear seats are gone, replaced by a roll bar, and so are the rear doors.
The engine is a modified version of the same twin-turbocharged V6 that the Alfa Romeo Giulia uses, delivering up to 611 horsepower to all four wheels thanks to a standard automatic transmission.
Production is limited to 65 units.
The first 10 are called ‘Opening Edition’ models, and they start at around €500,000 – equivalent to $570,000.
After that, SGT Automobili promises a main production run of 55 units that’ll cost even more.
