What did Danny Glover say about his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis?
Danny Glover is one of the most reputed names in Hollywood, known for Places in the Heart, The Color Purple, and the action blockbuster Lethal Weapon. In 2022, he received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, an Academy Honorary Award, for his lifelong humanitarian work. The following year, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
In a recent interview with People, the Lethal Weapon actor reflected on his diagnosis, saying, “I’m still not accepting in my mind all parts of it. There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I’ll never forget.”
According to Glover, he has acknowledged what is happening to him and, at the same time, knows that there are millions of people suffering from it. However, he does not feel like it’s the end of his life as “there’s work to do.”
Glover says he feels supported by his family, and he often reflects on his parents. He recalls, “There’s a picture in my living room with my mother and father. I have it to remind me, looking at it, how much I loved them both.” He is surrounded by friends and caregivers who remain supportive of him, including his only daughter, Mandisa.
He also claimed to experience a clearer mind in the mornings as he “tries to figure something out” by either reading or watching his current favorite show, Democracy Now!
Regardless of the disease, he has a positive outlook on life, and his activism has not stopped. He is currently working with the Alzheimer’s Association to spread awareness about the disease. His final comment was, “I still have my daughter, I have friends. I want to just say, your life continues.”
