The Odyssey released a countdown trailer two weeks ahead of its theatrical release. The trailer gives Christopher Nolan fans one more huge reason to be hyped for the upcoming movie.
The Odyssey is Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic, and the synopsis reads, “After the Trojan War, Odysseus faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Calypso along the way.”

What do we see in the new The Odyssey trailer?
The Odyssey takes us on an epic journey alongside the King of Ithaca, Odysseus, played by Matt Damon. The trailer shows us snippets of the people of Ithaca waiting for their King’s return. Among them are his wife, Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, and his grown-up son, Telemachus, played by Tom Holland.
Amid rising political tensions in the absence of a king, his family finds themselves fending off potential suitors trying to claim his throne. Robert Pattinson’s Antinous is one such suitor, an antagonist as he clashes with Telemachus and later, Odysseus.
On the other side, we see Odysseus and his men taking a dangerous path in pursuit of reaching home. He and his men fight giants, run into a Cyclops, and he can be seen walking alongside the goddess Athena, played by Zendaya.
Not only this, but the trailer also briefly shows the movie’s cinematography. The movie is written and directed by Nolan, who is best known for making movies as realistic as possible. He adapted the mythic action epic using the brand-new IMAX film technology.
These customised cameras were used to shoot the entire movie, placing the audience right alongside Odysseus and his men. The film also marks Nolan’s first feature shot entirely on IMAX cameras.
Alongside him, Emma Thompson produced the movie, with Thomas Hayslip serving as the executive director. The cast members also include Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, and Benny Safdie. The movie will be released in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.
