The iconic estate used as the exterior of Wayne Manor in the 1960s Batman TV series starring Adam West has hit the market for $32 million. It is a rare chance to live like Gotham’s most famous billionaire, even if you have to supply your own butler.
Wayne Manor from 1960s Batman TV show up for sale
The property served only as an exterior stand-in for Wayne Manor during the Adam West era of the show. Interior scenes were filmed on soundstages rather than inside the actual house. Now, the Pasadena estate that is up for sale spans roughly 18,000 square feet and includes seven bedrooms. Bathroom count runs high too, with three full baths, four half baths, and four three-quarter baths on offer.
Built in 1928, the three-storey home follows a Jacobean Tudor Revival design. It sits on nearly five acres of land and overlooks the Arroyo Seco, a seasonal stream and canyon area near Pasadena. There’s no Batcave hidden beneath the property, at least none that’s been disclosed. But buyers do get a pool built to resort standards, a pickleball court, and a private theatre. Mature oak trees, manicured gardens, and rolling lawns fill out the grounds, while hardwood and marble floors run through the interior.
Moreover, Wayne Manor, as a fictional concept, has taken many forms across Batman’s history in DC Comics. The mansion belongs to Bruce Wayne, who runs Wayne Enterprises by day and works as Batman by night. Alfred Pennyworth, the family butler, maintains the home in most tellings.
Early comics showed Bruce Wayne purchasing the property himself. That changed by the 1950s, when writers revised the backstory to make the manor a multi-generational family holding. The mansion also sits above the Batcave, Batman’s hidden base of operations. Design-wise, Wayne Manor usually follows a Gothic Revival style, echoing Gotham’s broader Gothic aesthetic.
All in all, as the residence that helped define the on-screen legend of Bruce Wayne for a generation of viewers, the home remains a tangible link to the campy, colourful world of 1960s television.
