FIFA has announced Justin Bieber as the final co-headliner for the World Cup final halftime show, which will be a first in the tournament’s history.
Madonna, Shakira and BTS had already been confirmed as performing during the break of Sunday, July 19’s showpiece game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
FIFA says the performance will be 11 minutes long and will represent “a landmark celebration at the intersection of sport, music and global impact”.
Chris Martin has curated the line-up which will also include Burna Boy, also announced Wednesday, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel and PS22 Chorus, featuring Martin’s Coldplay.
Characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets, will also be part of the show, FIFA says.
“When it comes to what the world needs, there is nothing more important than education,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said in Wednesday’s announcement.
“We are proud to have Justin Bieber joining Madonna, Shakira and BTS to co-headline the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund and our mission to expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children around the world.”
FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund, is an initiative aiming to raise $100 million to “expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children worldwide”, the governing body says.
“The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can,” Bieber, who announced the first pick of the 2026 NHL Draft last month, said. “I’m grateful to be part of this halftime show, and even more grateful knowing it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world.”
The Athletic previously reported that the performers for the halftime show will not be paid.
This is similar to what occurs in the Super Bowl event where the halftime acts — like 2026 performer Bad Bunny — are not paid either, instead recognising the exposure performing at the most-watched annual TV programme in the United States brings.
