Dan Stevens reacted to his RoboCop casting by sharing a playful post on Instagram. The actor posted a video with the caption “Buzz buzz…” alongside a mechanical arm emoji. He also quoted the franchise’s iconic line, “Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.”
Deadline first reported that Stevens will play Alex Murphy in Prime Video’s eight-episode RoboCop series. The show follows a giant tech conglomerate that places a powerful robot on a city’s police force. The project has been in development since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022.
Peter Ocko serves as the series’ writer, showrunner, and executive producer. James Wan executive produces for Blumhouse Atomic Monster alongside Michael Clear and Rob Hackett. RoboCop co-creator Ed Neumeier also serves as an executive producer on the project.
Wan previously expressed his enthusiasm for the adaptation in a statement. “I’ve been a massive fan of Robocop forever, so getting to help bring this world to television is a dream,” Wan said. He added that the team aims to “honor what made the original iconic” while “building something unmistakably new for a global audience.”
Stevens quickly emerged as the favorite to play Murphy, according to reports. The casting extends his relationship with Amazon MGM Studios after wrapping Legacy of Spies. He is also currently in production on the second season of Dexter: Resurrection. Stevens’ Instagram post garnered over 29,500 likes and 1,300 comments within 11 hours. Fans flooded the comments with excitement, with one user writing, “I’m like 10x more psyched for this now.”
