The Boston Bruins have signed Fraser Minten to a seven-year, $50.4 million extension. The deal will become active in 2027-28. Minten has one year remaining on his entry-level contract.
The center, acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs with a first-round pick and a fourth-round selection for Brandon Carlo, scored a career-high 17 goals and 18 assists in 2025-26. The rookie averaged 15:33 of ice time per game, earning coach Marco Sturm’s trust in all situations. He won NESN’s 7th Player Award as the Bruin who most exceeded fan expectations.
At five-on-five, Minten was the Bruins’ No. 3 center. He averaged 1:33 of short-handed ice time per game, third-most among team forwards. He occasionally played the bumper on the No. 2 power-play unit, averaging 0:58 of man-advantage time per game.
This season, the 22-year-old will be a candidate to be the Bruins’ No. 2 center. Minten should have more confidence to expand his offensive skill set as a shooter and passer.
As for the seven-year term, the Bruins are confident in their projection, even though Minten only has 107 games of NHL experience. It is enough data to indicate consistent growth into a core player who could join the leadership group because of his maturity and poise. Case in point: As a rookie, Minten rented out his Toronto apartment to former teammate Easton Cowan. The Bruins lock him in at a $7.2 million average annual value that projects to be reasonable amid the explosion of salary in second contracts.
Minten, meanwhile, gains long-term security even with an entry-level season remaining.
