These divers recovered a stolen $100,000 Corvette that had been buried deep at the bottom of a Georgia river.
It’d been down there for five years, so this was no recent submersion.
As impressive as it was that they recovered the car, they went one step further.
They tracked down its owner.
Sadly, a fair few cars have ended up underwater
Until the day scientists create a car that runs off water, it’s generally agreed that cars and water don’t mix.
We’ve seen this time and time again.
But fortunately, there are divers on hand to retrieve cars that end up in the murky depths of America’s lakes and irvers.
One team out in Chicago went deep to investigate one cold case from the 1970s and ended up uncovering 97 sunken cars.
Then there was the scuba team out in Oregon who discovered six classic cars in a river, in addition to a Mazda RX-7 FB.
Suffice to say, if a car has been dumped at the bottom of a river, there’s pretty good odds on it being stolen.
Case in point, a recent video from YouTube channel Jiggin’ With Jordan.
This team got together to retrieve a stolen $100,000 Corvette from the bottom of a river
Jordan had teamed up with the Wrecked and Recovered crew to pull submerged cars out of a river.
A police contact tipped them off to this spot.
Taking a boat out to find the cars, they would then use a wrecker to drag them to dry land.
In turn, they pulled up two cars – a two-tone Corvette Grand Sport and a vintage Mercedes.
Insofar as the Corvette was concerned, it looked as if the car had been underwater since at least July 2021, based on its expired tags.
The interior contains a bunch of junk, ranging from a cola drink to dice and sanitizer.
The car even contained a sticker with an Instagram handle on it, but that account was no longer active.
All in all, the car was in pretty good shape, considering its circumstances.
One wash later and it was well on its way to being back in shape.
Reaching out to their contact in the police force, they received confirmation that the Corvette had been stolen sometime around 2020.
So they’d only just gone and cracked a missing car case.
Now it was time to return it with the owner.
They then found the owner on Instagram
Through Instagram, they managed to find the owner.
Or at the very least, an account linked to the car as it had posted about it a few years back.
However, the account itself hadn’t been active since 2022.
The police were the ones who towed the car off, so hopefully there was a reunion off-screen.
“In my personal opinion, going out and doing the adventures is always fun, but the little connective tissue stories like that, that make it really personal, are my personal favorite,” Jordan concluded.
It’s not everyday you get some sentimentality out of a car in a river.
