Tech billionaire Elon Musk, President Donald Trump‘s newly designated White House chief of staff Stephen Miller, and major corporate entities are set to face congressional investigations once Democrats assume control of Capitol Hill in January, top lawmakers revealed on Sunday.
Appearing on Sunday news broadcasts, US Representative Robert Garcia of California and US Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts—slated to assume leadership of the House Oversight and Senate Banking committees—promised vigorous inquiry following their party’s broad midterm election triumphs.
Concurrently, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries signaled that he and fellow party members intend to support an impeachment effort directed at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Garcia, serving as the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, stated that upcoming probes will center on Musk’s participation in federal employment terminations through the Department of Government Efficiency last year, alongside Miller’s involvement in Trump’s aggressive border policies.
“I think there’s a lot of interest, not just from our committee, but from committees across the Congress to speak to Mr. Musk,” Garcia told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Warren indicated that corporate leaders should brace for congressional scrutiny, though she refrained from identifying specific firms.
“If you’ve been making your profits by cheating American families and scamming your investors, you’d better get ready for some investigations, serious ones,” Warren told CBS’s “Face the Nation” program.
Miller—characterized by Garcia as the architect behind a “horrific, unjust” approach to immigration enforcement—was recently appointed White House chief of staff.
“Stephen Miller is at the center of the major policy decisions that are happening in the administration, and so it does deserve oversight and investigation,” Garcia told CNN.
Although voters delivered a decisive setback to Republicans during Tuesday’s midterms, the Trump administration—with Miller stepping into the role of chief of staff—is expected to maintain its forceful approach to border security, heighten cultural disputes, and yield no ground to the incoming Democratic congressional majority, according to officials and political analysts who spoke to Reuters.
The immigration enforcement campaign, which included incidents where federal agents fatally shot two people in Minnesota, has drawn widespread public dissatisfaction. A Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted in October indicated that approval for Trump’s handling of immigration stood at 37%, a marked decline from 50% when he assumed office.
Jeffries, expected to become speaker of the US House come January, stated on Sunday that Democrats would vote in favor of a measure to impeach Hegseth, initiating a legislative process capable of stripping him of his post.
Outgoing Kentucky Republican Representative Thomas Massie, a frequent critic of Trump who will depart Congress in January after losing a primary challenge backed by Trump earlier this year, previously noted he would soon reintroduce articles of impeachment against Hegseth. Jeffries confirmed he is a “hard yes” on supporting that motion.

“Pete Hegseth has got to go,” Jeffries told ABC’s “This Week,” citing the defense secretary’s oversight of the unpopular Iran war launched by Trump in February, which has led to a spike in gas prices.
“I believe there will be incredibly strong support for that resolution,” Jeffries added.
Attorney General Todd Blanche warned on Sunday that the Trump White House is prepared to challenge congressional Democrats directly, characterizing warnings of investigations into executive officials and allies as “not something we can tolerate in this country.”
“If that’s what this new incoming leadership wants to do, we are ready,” said Blanche, a former personal lawyer for Trump. “If you work in this administration, you have a lawyer. It’s me.”
