Michael Jordan used to own aFerrari512 TR and a Ferrari 550 Maranello that later disappeared seemingly for no reason.
The 550 in particular had a problematic history.
It was delivered to Jordan in 1997, and he held on to it for around three years, and thesupercarvanished without a trace.
It was recently found after a 10-year search, and there’s an amazing coincidence that stood out when this Florida specialist and his team located the Ferrari.
How these guys managed to find Michael Jordan’s Ferrari 550
With the help of Tim Fabrizio, a guy who’s famous for being particularly good at locating lost vehicles, YouTube channelWe are Curatedmanaged to locate bothJordan’s 512 TR as well as his 550 Maranello.
Finding the 512 wasn’t easy, but the 550 Maranello was even harder to find.
The team spent years investigating false leads, including a few cars they tracked to no avail only to realize they were chasing the wrong vehicle.
The VIN was the main problem.
The car had not been seen or sold publicly for ages, with virtually no documentation or records available to the public for years.
And it got worse, because for a long time, the team only had six digits of theFerrariVIN, requiring extensive investigative work to recreate the full US-compliant VIN.
Then, when they finally found it on paper, they realized they’d only done half of the job.
They had to employ private investigators and conduct boots-on-the-ground searches inCaliforniato track down the current owner, who was a private, wealthy individual unwilling to share information or even pictures of the car.
Eventually, they managed to convince him to make a film about it.
Filming wrapped on May 29th, which might seem inconsequential if not for the fact that May 29th, 1997 was the exact day Michael Jordan had originally purchased the vehicle.
What were the odds?
The 550 is an underrated hero
The Ferrari 550 Maranello is an underrated icon.
Unveiled in 1996, it’s a V12 grand tourer with a 5.5-liter (hence the name) V12 capable of sending 478 horsepower to the rear wheels via a six-speed gearbox.
It’s rare, but not that rare: Ferrari built over 3,000 of these.
Maybe this explains why its value is still sort of under control.
Back when it was new, a Ferrari 550 Maranello had an MSRP of $212,000.
Today, you can find one in mint condition with low-mileage for between $350,000 and $500,000 depending on the exact service history and color specification.
Not this one, though.
The Michael Jordan connection would likely add a hefty premium.
