This American man used to laugh at EVs, but after switching to a Tesla Model Y, he was left stunned.
Taking to a Facebook group for Tesla owners, a man called Tom Forsythe shared his ‘teslamonial’.
Having previously driven a Chevy 2500 Series Silverado, Forsythe counted himself as an EV skeptic.
But when the time came to change his vehicle, he was left floored by the amount of money he was saving after switching to an EV.
This man went from laughing at EVs to raking in savings with his Tesla Model Y
As reported by Torque News, Forsythe posted his story into a Tesla Model Y Juniper Owner Club group on Facebook.
He described himself as a guy ‘that laughed at EV cars’.
“I shook my head when I saw people sitting at chargers as if to say ‘That makes no sense’,” he wrote.
He’d put 100,000 miles on his Chevy 2500 Series Silveradoover a three year period and described his ‘gas guzzling powerful’ vehicle as a great truck.
But he realized only a few thousand of those miles required a truck.
“With the price of the Model Y Premium AWD, .99% financing and the delta of savings between these 2 vehicles for the number of miles I log, buying the Model Y was elementary math,” he explained.
And it didn’t take long for the savings to become apparent.
How much money had this former EV-skeptic saved with his Tesla?
Due to him having hardwired chargers at home, Forsythe could do 90 percent of his charging in his garage, saving himself between $7,000 and $8,000 a year.
Wowzer.
This isn’t the first time the benefits of home charging an EV has been noted – one Tesla owner did a deep-dive into this topic and it was eye-opening.
But the savings didn’t stop there.
“On top of that, the finance money on the Silverado pickup was 5%. The money on the Tesla is 1%,” he wrote.
“There’s another couple thousand annually. The Chevy Silverado was costing me $1,200 a year in insurance. The Tesla is $1,032. The gas savings alone is making the payment.”
Consider this man a full-blown EV convert.
This isn’t the first time an EV convert has realized the saving potential
You can find plenty of people online who have similar experiences to this Model Y owner.
One British man shared his savings after making a switch to a Škoda Enyaq, while a Canadian driver went public with his savings after moving over to a Tesla.
And you don’t need owners testimonials (Or ‘Teslamonials’, which is officially our new favorite word) to make this point.
A study has laid bare the dramatic cost differences between owning an EV and a gas car in the US.
Savings are abound it would seem – but everyone should do their own research before committing to a new car.
