The best samurai anime on Crunchyroll is about to make its highly anticipated return, and fans won’t have to wait long. Season 2 of The Elusive Samurai brings back its acclaimed creative team and promises bigger battles ahead.
The Elusive Samurai Season 2 is arriving next week on Crunchyroll
The Elusive Samurai season 2 premieres on July 17, 2026, as part of Crunchyroll’s summer lineup, ScreenRant reported. The acclaimed samurai anime returns after its breakout first season in summer 2024. CloverWorks studio once again handles the adaptation of Yusei Matsui’s Shonen Jump manga.
The first season quickly went viral for its exuberant animation and energetic storytelling. It covered chapters 1 through 31 of the manga, which ended earlier this year. The series follows young runaway heir Tokiyuki Hojo during the violent Kenmu Restoration era. He goes into hiding after traitor Takauji Ashikaga stages a coup against his clan.
Key creative staff members return for the second season to maintain continuity. Yuta Yamazaki returns as director, while Yoriko Tomita handles series composition again. Yasushi Nishiya also comes back as character designer and chief animation director.
Season 1 earned praise for blending comedy, action, and character drama effectively. Voice actor Yuichi Nakamura delivered a particularly noteworthy performance as Yorishige Suwa. The animation team captured the pure joy of motion in Tokiyuki’s divine gift of evasion.
Season 2 will likely cover the Confrontation in Shinano and Kyoto Arcs going forward. The trailer frequently references Tokiyuki showing his resolve to retake Kamakura. He fled from the city during the events of the first season’s storyline.
The new season introduces Mima Sasaki as a notable addition to the cast. Tokiyuki’s mission remains clear heading into the new episodes ahead. He aims to build alliances and turn samurai who want to die into fighters. The completed manga gives CloverWorks plenty of source material well beyond season 2. Nearly two more decades of Tokiyuki’s life remain for the anime to chronicle.
