The BoysstarJessie T. Ushertrades superheroes for something far more unsettling in his latest project. The actor joins four other notable names in a newsci-fi thrillerthat explores the dark side of human consciousness and technology.
Syndetic movie announced with cast and more
Syndetic has added Jessie T. Usher, Brett Gelman, Taye Diggs, Torrey Lawrence, and Brooke Anne Smith to its cast, per Deadline. The psychological sci-fi thriller already finished filming in Los Angeles. Additionally, the project serves as Blake Linder’s first feature as director.
Jayme LaForest penned the script for the upcoming film. In it, Torrey Lawrence portrays Richard Thompson, a former Marine working in network administration. Consequently, his struggles with joblessness, substance abuse, and distance from his sons make him susceptible to a strange proposition.
A company called Neural Hive extends that proposition through Dr. Carnegie, portrayed by Gelman. As a result, Richard enters an experimental initiative that links human brains as individual nodes. The resulting computing network then attempts to tap into the brain’s predictive and analytical abilities.
However, Richard soon starts seeing disturbing visions and recalling memories that do not belong to him. Meanwhile, Brooke Anne Smith plays Kylie O’Reilly, an omnipresent motivational figure whose positivity grows increasingly unsettling. Elsewhere, Usher and Diggs portray two detectives trying to piece together Richard’s disjointed testimony.
Linder shared his perspective on the film’s themes during the announcement. “I’ve always been drawn to stories that leave audiences asking difficult questions, and Syndetic does exactly that,” he stated. Furthermore, he explained his goal of merging grounded suspense with psychological horror to examine humanity’s relationship with technology.
Ryan Broomberg served as cinematographer. LaForest produces through Fall Risk Entertainment alongside Jason Short via Short Films and Linder Productions. Usher is repped by Independent Artists Group and Luber Roklin Entertainment. Similarly, Gelman is with Creative Artists Agency, Entertainment 360, and Schreck Rose Dapello. Diggs is with Independent Artists Group and Down Deep Productions.
