The Odyssey will mark the end of an era for Hollywood star and acclaimed actor Tom Holland. The upcoming epic adventure is helmed by Christopher Nolan.
What did Tom Holland say about The Odyssey?
For the past decade, Tom Holland has largely portrayed younger characters across most of his projects. He has transitioned from being a teenager to a 30-year-old person now. Reflecting on his career, the actor recently mentioned that The Odyssey will be the last movie in which he portrays a boy.
Speaking with People, Holland said that The Odyssey marks the beginning “of a new chapter” of his life. “The thing that I love the most is that it feels a little bit like the last chance for me to play a boy,” he revealed.
In The Odyssey, Holland plays Telemachus, the only son of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon. He also mentioned how this character made him reflect on masculinity and the journey of a boy becoming a man. “Maybe what you can learn from this movie about masculinity is that it comes in all shapes and sizes and no version of it’s perfect,” he added.
The actor also expressed his feelings about being in a Nolan movie for the first time. “Before you’ve worked with him….you think about it a lot and you yearn for that opportunity and then you get the opportunity and that comes with a lot of pressure,” he said.
The ambitious film also stars Holland’s wife and star actress Zendaya. She will play Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Other key cast members include Robert Pattinson as Penelope’s suitor Antinous, Charlize Theron as the nymph Calypso, John Leguizamo as Odysseus’s servant Eumaeus, and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus.
Himesh Patel, Mia Goth, Travis Scott, Corey Hawkins, Samantha Morton, and Jimmy Gonzales are also playing crucial roles.
The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17, 2026.
