Footage has shown an Audi R8 and a Ford Mustang Mach 1 go head-to-head in a battle of the brakes.
A video on Instagram has shown the power of the brakes on two cars, nearly resulting in an accident.
In the video, we see the two exiting a tunnel, with the Audi supercar coming to a very quick stop, showing how powerful its brakes are.
Just behind it, however, came the Mustang, and this gives us a clear example of the differences between German and American brakes.
How the Audi R8 and Ford Mustang Mach 1 brakes compare
In the video, we can see the Audi R8 emerging from a tunnel, with both cars somewhere in the United States.
The driver of the Audi puts the brakes on and comes to an almost immediate stop.
Behind him, however, the Ford Mustang Mach 1 has come charging out of the tunnel.
When the driver of the muscle car slams on the brakes, the results aren’t quite the same.
It comes to a stop quickly, but not as fast as the Audi.
In fact, the American muscle car nearly smashes into the back of its German rival.
It took some quick evasive action from the Mustang driver to avoid hitting the German supercar.
Other factors at play in this incident
There are a couple of things to consider with this incident.
As the cars exited the tunnel, it looked like the Mustang Mach 1 was going faster.
It is also quite possible the driver of the muscle car wasn’t expecting the Audi to come to such a sudden stop.
Potentially, the Ford driver also wasn’t paying close attention to what was going on around him.
Rewatching the video, it is quite incredible that the two cars didn’t crash into each other.
The Mustang was just inches away from causing a major accident.
Perhaps the moral of the story is to always keep an eye on what is happening in front of you.
