Celebrity political activism took an unexpected pivot in New York City on Sunday when actor and advocate Mark Ruffalo channelled his inner Hulk to rally voters ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
During the Hands Off Our Vote rally, Ruffalo’s spirited speech led to a Marvel moment as he was requesting voters to throw Donald Trump out of power.
“We gotta get this dumb—, fool a–, tired a–, lame a–, duck a– out of office,” Ruffalo declared to the roaring crowd. “We got to make him a lame duck! We have to stop his policies now. Another two years of this, and who knows what he’ll be doing? He’s calling to throw Democrats out of the country. And he means it! The guy means everything he says.”
“They’re going to try and stop us from taking our country back, and we’re not going to let ’em,” Ruffalo added. “Trump, we’re not letting you! Hands off our f—ing vote!”
In the middle of his speech, however, one person yelled, “You tell ’em, Hulk!” referring to the actor’s popular MCU role as the giant green superhero. Ruffalo laughed and replied, “I’m gonna Hulk out. You won’t like me when I’m angry.”
The crowd’s Hulk chant shifted the focus from politics to Marvel
Mark Ruffalo kept on motivating the voters in his Hulk style. After pausing for a moment, he added, “Hey, I’m still here! They thought I was out for the count — I’m still here, I’m still playing the Hulk.” The actor was last seen playing Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Ruffalo concluded his speech by urging people to go out and vote during the midterm elections. “We have to be together and we have to fight for each other and we have to be brave. Our time to be brave is coming, I’m telling you brothers and sisters,” he said.
“They’re going to do everything they can to make us feel lost, to make it feel inevitable. It’s not inevitable! We’re inevitable — the truth is inevitable.” Ruffalo was joined on stage by a star-studded group of fellow artists and activists, including Robert De Niro and comedian Mo Amer.
The rally marks one of Ruffalo’s highest-profile public appearances since voicing strong public opposition to the Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger, a stance that drew public backing from Hollywood peers like George Clooney, Jane Fonda, and John Cusack.
